POSITION OBJECTIVE

This position assists investigators with the gathering and collection of disclosure material that is the subject of more complex or contentious cases under investigation. The position accesses sensitive information emanating from cases under investigation and interprets legislation and policy, and exercises judgement and discretion on the appropriate disclosure of this information.

SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to receive a waiver.

It is a requirement of this position that applicants undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability, and as an incumbent, agree to undergo periodical psychological assessments, as required.

Applicants are asked to address the following nominated work related requirements in no more than three (3) pages:

Communication skills

Liaising and negotiating with stakeholders and maintaining customer relationships. Building and maintaining effective working relationships, internally and externally. Preparing reports, memos and general correspondence. Making recommendations for action.   

Ability in the interpretation and application of legislation, policy and procedures     

Interpreting and applying legislation, including the Criminal Investigations Act and Criminal Procedures Act. Applying processes and procedures to enable decision making on the disclosure of information.

Organisational skills 

Coordinating workloads, determining priorities and meeting timeframes. Time management and meeting deadlines.

Applicants are also required to submit a Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Please note: For applicants deemed suitable, all Essential Work Related Requirements listed in the Position Description Form will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.

OTHER CONDITIONS

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the metropolitan area. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment.

Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for this position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to this position may be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
