This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2020
Derby District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a highly enthusiastic Teacher – Education Support to work with students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in our Special Education Needs (SEN) room.
We are seeking an individual to expand the opportunities for our students to develop the academic, personal and social competencies they will need to participate within the wider school community.
To be successful for this role you will desirably possess strong teaching and classroom management skills. Possessing an excellent understanding of disabilities and diverse needs, and having the ability to develop good relationships with students engaging them in highly effective learning, is highly advantageous. The successful applicant will desirably have the ability to create a learning environment that is differentiated, challenging, caring, creative and that caters for a range of diverse needs and abilities
The successful applicant will be required to collaborate with and support mainstream teachers in developing Individual Education Plan (IEP) and identify teaching and learning adjustments required for special needs students in mainstream classrooms. The successful applicant will be an effective team member who possesses the ability to work collaboratively with Special Needs Assistants. Applicants with an understanding of the challenges faced by students with mental health issues from Kindergarten to Year 12 will be highly regarded.
Derby DHS is a welcoming school on beautiful school grounds. The SEN team is a friendly and dynamic team. We are located in Derby which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australian. Derby is 220km east of Broome by road and is 2463km north of Perth.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
