Position Profile
Field Veterinarians play a critical role in surveillance and emergency disease preparedness which underpins Western Australia’s extensive livestock market access and enviable animal health status. If you are passionate about animal health and have excellent communication skills this may be the job for you. We are seeking to establish a pool of suitably qualified applicants for the role of Field Veterinary Officer at Specified Callings Level (SCL) 1-3 and in a range of regional locations.
Initially, the pool will be used to fill two (2) vacant permanent full-time positions in Katanning (SCL1) and Moora (SCL3). The pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the process and may be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise in this period. Please note, being appointed to the pool does not guarantee you placement to a position.
In these roles, you will provide scientifically based advice about the disease and residue status of Western Australia's livestock and investigate livestock disease incidents in their designated region. Successful applicants will maintain preparedness to respond to emergency animal disease or residue incidents of consequence to the Australian economy or human health.
You will also work closely with other Department staff and the livestock industry to implement and support animal health plans and policies. Please refer to the Job Description Form attached for full position details.
The role responsibility will vary according to level:
SCL 1Under the immediate guidance of senior officers, contributes to the surveillance, regulation, controls and emergency preparedness that underpins Western Australia’s extensive market access for our livestock and aquatic industries.
SCL 2At an experienced professional level, under general direction and using initiative and independent judgement, contributes to the surveillance, regulation, controls and emergency preparedness that underpins Western Australia’s extensive market access for our livestock and aquatic industries.
SCL 3At a broadly recognised professional level, demonstrating considerable initiative and independent judgement, contributes to the surveillance, regulation, controls and emergency preparedness that underpins Western Australia’s extensive market access for our livestock and aquatic industries.
Eligibility / Other Conditions
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract and this is required as part of your application.
Appointments from this Pool process may be made in Katanning or Moora. Other locations may be considered.
