The Heavy Vehicle Services Directorate (HVS) is responsible for safe, efficient and sustainable heavy vehicle access to the Western Australian Road Network. Our role is to achieve objectives for road safety, transport efficiency, community amenity and preservation of the state’s road asset.
About the Opportunity
The Heavy Vehicle Services Directorate (HVS) is responsible for safe, efficient and sustainable heavy vehicle access to the Western Australian Road Network. Our role is to achieve objectives for road safety, transport efficiency, community amenity and preservation of the state’s road asset.
At HVS we work with state and national transport industry groups, individual operators, government bodies, regional areas and other key departments across Main Roads to achieve key outcomes.
As the Heavy Vehicle Access Improvement Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing support services and coordinating of access improvement programs such as the WA Performance Base Standards (PBS) Scheme, Hill Descent Monitoring Schemes and other vehicle telematics schemes. The role is also responsible for providing specialist heavy vehicle technical advice for operational policy development in relation to access solutions for Restricted Access Vehicles (RAV) to the State’s road network. Some of your key responsibilities include:
- Advice and support related to network access for RAV: Research, consult and recommend opportunities to ensure RAV consistency and priorities for road improvements.
- Business Related to Access Programs: Co-ordinate the development, delivery, enhancement and continuous improvements of WA PBS Scheme.
- Co-ordinator and Supervision: Supervise employee behaviour, performance and development, complete reporting information and data and demonstrate a proactive approach to reviewing work processes and guidelines.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Ensure appropriate access planning support and advice is provided to the relevant internal and external stakeholders and maintain collaborative working relationships between these stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, your previous experience will need to demonstrate that you excel in:
- the interpretation and application of legislation, policies and procedures in a road transport planning regulatory environment
- technical assessment practices
- research, analysis and problem solving
- supervision of teams and individuals
- building and enhancing stakeholder relationships
- interpersonal skills including facilitation and negotiation
