Project Manager

Level 7 | Full Time, Fixed Term for 3 years with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA’s economy, community and environment.

About the opportunity

DPIRD has partnered with Rio Tinto and Meat and Livestock Australia to advance regionally relevant research and Industry innovation on Rio Tinto’s Pastoral leases for the benefit of the northern pastoral industry. This is an exciting opportunity to manage and lead the delivery of the Pilbara Innovation Partnership to unlock the potential of pastoral businesses and the northern rangelands. Endeavouring to transform Agriculture in the Pilbara and to improve cattle husbandry, nutrition and genetics. Supporting regional development, environment and communities and influence a sustainable pastoral industry in our amazing state of Western Australia (WA).

WA’s North features the most extraordinary sceneries from rugged mountain ranges to the pristine coastal waters of Ningaloo Reef and fabulous fishing locations. Visit the Karijini National Park and Millstream -Chichester National Park as they offer incredible natural formations that need to be seen to believed.

This role is extremely flexible, with allowances and entitlements that DPIRD offers to anyone working in a regional location. If you are based regionally or would like to move regionally for this role, these can include district allowance, air conditioning subsidy, remote area travel allowance, and additional one-week annual leave (pro-rata) as just a few examples. There are also flexible working arrangements if you cannot or do not wish to live regionally or in the exact Pilbara region, all applications are welcome!

There is currently one (1) fixed-term position for three (3) years available for immediate filling. 

Karratha is the preferred work location, however other locations may be considered for the suitable applicant.

We are looking for individuals with experience in:   

  • leading, research and coordination of projects;
  • development and implementation of project and contract management strategies;
  • providing strategic advice to the working groups and key stakeholder regarding current, evolving or emerging issues;
  • managing strategic partnerships, collaborative working relationships and effective communication networks with key stakeholders, community and agencies.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
