As a firefighter, you will be involved in responding to and participating in emergency incidents to assist and safeguard people, property and the environment. This includes responding to fires, vehicle accidents, rescues, and other emergency incidents.

Eligibility To Apply

To become a firefighter, you must meet the following essential pre-requisites:

  • Be an Australian Citizen, or have permanent residency with unrestricted work rights, or be a New Zealand Citizen with a Special Category Visa.
  • Hold a current West Australian C Class unrestricted (manual) driver’s licence*.
  • Hold a current Provide First Aid Certificate HLTAID011**; and
  • Have the ability to obtain a West Australian or National Heavy Rigid (HR-B) driver’s licence within three months of commencing the recruitment process.

* Interstate C Class unrestricted driver’s licences will be accepted but must be transferred to a WA licence upon receiving an offer of employment.

** Your Provide First Aid Certificate must include the exact competency code HLTAID011. If your current certificate is of a higher qualification and/or does not have/state this competency code, you will be required to obtain this specific competency code qualification. If you are unsure that your First Aid qualification meets this competency code, please do not contact Firefighter Recruitment, instead contact a First Aid provider and seek their written confirmation and upload this with your application. 

Please Note:

To progress to the final assessment stage (refer to information pack), you will be required to provide evidence of the following:

  • Current Western Australian or National Heavy Rigid (synchromesh gear box) driver license.
  • Current Provide Advanced First Aid Certificate (HLTAID014).
  • Current Provide Advanced Resuscitation Certificate (HLTAID015).
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate.
  • A satisfactory Working with Children Check.
