Western Australian College of Agriculture – Denmark is seeking a Vocational Trainer and Assessor – Equine to join their friendly team.
As a Vocational Trainer and Assessor, you will ideally possess great communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with young people in a flexible training environment. In addition, you should have the capacity to form industry links and networks to attract meaningful industry work for students.
The successful applicant will manage the equine facilities to ensure safe and effective working and training environments for students, staff members and animals. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering, training and assessing a Certificate II in Horse care. In addition to this the successful applicant has a responsibility, together with our students, for the care of both College and student owned horses. The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to work as part of a skilled team who deliver Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificates to students in Years 10, 11 and 12 within a residential boarding environment.
The successful applicant will require a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and relevant equine qualifications to deliver Certificate II in Horse Care and should have a passion for education and training.
WA College of Agriculture - Denmark is a 560-hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10, 11 and 12 students offering a wide variety of studies and industry training with an agricultural focus. We attract students from all over the state from a wide variety of backgrounds and have a capacity of around 140 students. Many of our students enrolled in the equine programme are fortunate to agist their personal horses at the College.
While the majority of our students board in the College's 96-bed residential facility, there are a number of day students, and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. Our prime location is both a strength and motivation for us to continue to deliver outstanding outcomes for our students and develop strong partnerships with the community, to ensure our long-term future.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
- Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training Quality Framework, including Training Packages, Australian Qualifications Framework, the Standards for RTOs, Recognition of Prior Learning and competency based training and assessment.
- Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
- Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold one of the following:
- TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
- TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: and TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A; and:
- TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B;
- A relevant higher qualification;
- Hold a relevant Certificate lll trade qualification or relevant higher qualification;
- Obtain a current department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by department policy; and
- Complete the department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
