Various Positions – Principal Consultants Secondary – Languages
The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate is seeking to appoint two (2) qualified, highly motivated and committed Principal Consultants Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment – Languages with specialised expertise in teaching one or more of the following languages to Year 11 and 12: Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean or Tamil.
We currently have the following positions available:
For Permanent tenure only
- 1x – permanent full-time position
- 1x – permanent part-time (0.5FTE) position
All positions will commence January 2023.

The Role and our Branch
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work as part of an enthusiastic and self-motivated team and conceptualise and complete curriculum projects. The Principal Consultants Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment – Languages will:
- develop and review curriculum and assessment to support implementation of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (Outline) and WACE.
- monitor and review the implementation and delivery of curriculum, courses and course standards, projects and programs
- implement moderation activities to ensure statewide comparability of standards
- provide high-level curriculum advice and expertise in producing quality ATAR course examinations and marking keys
- communicate, collaborate and negotiate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to establish and maintain common understandings to support the effective delivery of the Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations and Authority initiatives.

The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Division provides administrative and secretariat services for and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Division provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
Located in Curriculum and Assessment in the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate, the Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment – Languages manages the development and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials in the area of Languages.

- Demonstrated high-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring and review.

- Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
