What is the Aboriginal Employment Program (AEP)?
The AEP is a diversity and inclusion initiative that sits within the department’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy and the Diversity and Inclusion Plan. It is a 12-month program which provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employment and career development opportunities. The program commences in February 2023.

What you will be doing?
This position sits within the WorkSafe Service Industries and Specialists Directorate, responsible for work safety and health compliance in the services, retail, public sector and related industries. The directorate also provides specialist inspectors who work across industry in relation to plant, engineering, human factors, ergonomics, asbestos and occupational hygiene. The person in this role will work in industries including the public sector, health, education and community services.
Working in a team of inspectors, you will be responsible for carrying out workplace inspections and taking enforcement action when health and safety laws are breached. You will investigate lower complexity workplace incidents and assist in gathering evidence.
We are currently looking for a committed work health and safety professional who has knowledge and practical experience in the application of Work Health and Safety law. You will also be a good communicator who can build rapport with people in challenging and confronting situations.

What are we looking for?
To be shortlisted for interview, you are required to submit the following two application documents;
- A maximum two (2) page covering letter using examples to address the requirements outlined below,
- A Certificate IV or higher Work Health and Safety related qualification or equivalent Work Health and Safety experience.
- Demonstrated a range of industry experience equivalent to the role, knowledge and practical experience in the application of Work Health and Safety law including investigating incidents.
- Experience in developing and building rapport to gain cooperation from people in challenging and confronting situations.
- A current resume including the names of two (2) referees, with a current line manager preferred.
