The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety have come together to create an award-winning interagency graduate program.
The Department has an internal and interagency graduate program that successful applicants will be considered for during this recruitment process.
About the Interagency Graduate Program
Our award-winning 18-month graduate program aims to build the skills, experience and networks required for a successful career in the public sector. A customised rotational plan exposes our graduates to a range of opportunities across the public sector. Initial employment is on a fixed basis with the provision for permanent appointment following successful completion of the program.

We are looking for the following graduate officers for our 2023 program.
The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation are looking for graduates with a bachelor degree completed in 2021 or 2022 in the following (or similar) fields.
- International Relations, Business or Commerce (Economics), Law or Politics (with a commercial or business focus), or an approved equivalent degree.
The graduates will carry out a range of functions during rotations through different divisions of the department, and possibly through other WA Government departments before returning to a position in the Strategy and International Engagement Group.
Strategy & International Engagement
The Strategy and International Engagement group provides strategic policy advice on state development issues and leads initiatives for significant investment in large and complex projects in Western Australia, supports a network of international offices to promote Western Australia and its industries and encourages strategic investment and trade opportunities.
Strategic Policy
The Strategic Policy division provides analysis and policy advice on economic issues related to jobs, resources and industry development. This includes policy to support the development of key priority sectors and government economic priorities, including international education and industry decarbonisation. 3 key areas of focus are:
- Analysing and preparing policy advice on whole-of-Government economic issues, including skilled worker attraction, industry decarbonisation and progress towards environmental, social and governance (ESG) outcomes.
- Monitoring and engaging with relevant internal and external stakeholders on the delivery of the State’s economic diversification agenda, including progress reporting on Diversify WA and the Supply Chain Development Plan.
- Undertaking economic and market condition research to support JTSI’s activities and ministers.
Invest and Trade Western Australia
Invest and Trade Western Australia, within the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI), is the Western Australia (WA) Government office responsible for promoting and attracting investment and trade in Western Australia.
ITWA has four key areas Client Services, Investment and Trade Policy, Projects and Initiatives, Funding and Governance.
- Client services: the team supports interstate and international businesses with their investment enquiries and provides information and advice to WA companies wanting to enhance their investment readiness or export capability. The Asian Engagement area is also in this team.
- Investment and Trade Policy: The team advocates for WA’s interests on investment and trade policy issues in interactions with the Commonwealth and other States, such as negotiating Free Trade Agreements and coordinating WA’s input into the Foreign Relations Act.
- Projects and Initiatives: The team leads a range of engagement activities related to investment and trade, including major events, meetings with international dignitaries, strategic partnerships and Sister-State relationships.
- Funding and Governance: develops and manages the Investment Attraction Fund.
Overseas Offices
The Overseas Offices network promotes and attracts international investment in Western Australia and supports the growth of Western Australia's export industries.
