What work will I be doing?
Main Roads Western Australia is offering Traineeships to enthusiastic and invested individuals who are interested in working in and around the Goldfields Esperance Region.
Based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and working as part of the Region’s laboratory team, this two-year technical traineeship will give you with the opportunity to develop a variety of hands on experience, including but not limited to:
- Field testing on construction materials
- Laboratory chemical and physical testing of construction materials
- Operating and maintaining testing equipment
- Assisting with calibrating road testing and construction equipment
- Assistance with pavement and surfacing investigations
Along with some formal training, you’ll learn on-the-job, guided by your supervisor and a network of support that will help you feel like a valued member of the community.
This opportunity is a key role located in the iconic Goldfields-Esperance region, which is home to striking landscapes, gold rush heritage and Indigenous history. There is so much to see and do working in this region; you can start your journey of discovery at the Hannan’s North Tourist Mine or Museum of the Goldfields and follow the Golden Quest Discovery Trail, leading you from Kalgoorlie-Boulder through Coolgardie, Menzies, Laverton and deep into the Goldfields. What we are looking for
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a basic understanding of and interest in maths and physics. You will be a good communicator and have sound problem solving skills. You will enjoy working as part of a team and be willing to get involved and take on new challenges and responsibilities. You will have an interest in creating a lasting positive impact in your local community and in developing a career with Main Roads.
How does a traineeship work?
As part of the traineeship you will:
- work full time with Main Roads while completing your two year traineeship
- attend classroom based training in Perth twice a year, with all our other trainees across the State.
- be supported every step of the way – our friendly trainee coordinator is dedicated to ensuring you are developing and learning at your best.
At the end of two years, you will complete your Certificate III in Laboratory Skills and the potential of an ongoing career with long term development opportunities at Main Roads.

This is a full-time Fixed Term position for a period of up to 24 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
Applicants selected for appointment will have to pass a pre-employment medical assessment and National Police Clearance.
