If you are a recent or soon to be graduate or an early to mid-career research scientist or development officer, we strongly encourage you to apply.
To be considered an ideal candidate, you will demonstrate an understanding of Western Australian primary industries, the key commodities produced and the challenges and opportunities they face, commensurate with your level of experience.
Research Scientist
You will have knowledge and understanding of scientific research methodologies that can be applied to one or more of the following:
- delivery of applied R&D activities including research question definition, experimental design of trials and demonstrations, trial management skills, knowledge of livestock, plant and crop sciences, plant genetics and improvement, water science and engineering, data analysis and modelling
- the development, use and application of statistical, biological and bio-economic and economicmodels, with understanding and ability to apply analysis skills to assess the bio-economic impact of change on different aspects of production systems from the paddock to whole-farm, landscape and/or industry scales and/or skills in modelling the complex interactions of different components of the system and/or the statistical design and analysis of research trials
- the development, use and application of technology and new innovations in agricultural systems.
Development Officer
You will have knowledge and experience that can be applied to one or more of the following:
- agri-food industry sustainable production systems and principles of extension and industry development
- delivery of R&D activities including experimental design of trials and demonstrations, trial management skills, knowledge of livestock, plant and crop sciences, data analysis
- ability to apply analysis skills to understanding the impact of change on different aspects of production systems from the paddock to whole-farm, landscape and/or industry scales
- the development, use and application of technology and new innovations in agricultural systems
To be successful you will have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to plan, manage time and adjust to changing circumstances. Your networking, extension and communication skills will be applied to understand priority issues, engage stakeholders, and extend research outcomes to assist farmers, agri-industry and the research community to make our agricultural production systems more sustainable, profitable, carbon neutral and climate resilient.

Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract and this is required as part of your application.

This pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the recruitment process and may be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise in this period.
