About the role
This is an outstanding opportunity for a leader with a commitment to social justice to join the executive team at Legal Aid WA. This role is responsible for delivering state-wide criminal law services and programs. It leads and manages the Criminal Law Division, including two regional offices. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and be capable of leading change and innovation. Proven ability to build and maintain strong teams and relationships with staff and stakeholders is critical. Capacity to drive the performance and availability of services across all locations is crucial for success in this role. Broad experience in criminal law is highly desirable.
Contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation and working collaboratively as part of the Executive Management Team delivering corporate objectives will form an important part of this role. The Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia is an independent statutory authority funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments. It provides services in the areas of criminal, family and civil law to clients through its offices in Perth and across regional Western Australia. In 2021-22 Legal Aid WA had an expense budget of 88 million. We provided lawyers to people on 109,000 occasions, completed over 61,934 calls on our information line, conducted 11,606 chats via our Infochat service and 1,135 Virtual Office appointments (2020-21). Private practitioners undertake about 81% of our legal representation work.
