Are you passionate about economics and economic policy?
Do you want to contribute to building a resilient economy for Western Australia?
Be at the centre of Government decision-making with Treasury and influence the outcomes that benefit Western Australians.
About the Roles
Treasury is looking to fill three Level 5 positions in the Economic Business Unit, which is responsible for the provision of economic, financial and policy advice that promotes the public interest across a wide range of activities. The positions are in the Economic Policy (1) and Economic and Revenue Forecasting (2) directorates.
- As an Economic Analyst in the Economic Strategy, Engagement and Diversification team within the Economic Policy Directorate, you will contribute to the provision of evidence-based advice on strategic economic priorities, including the State Government’s diversification agenda, and collaborate across government on driving changes in economic policy.
- As an Economic Analyst in the Economic Revenue and Forecasting Directorate, you will apply your skills to identifying lead indicators, monitoring economic conditions, and forecasting economic and/or revenue aggregates for the annual budget and mid‑year review processes. You will also prepare presentations and conduct research on the economy, to inform Treasury Executive and Government.
In all roles you will also provide support for Treasury’s economic engagement program, including arranging and attending external meetings, and preparing relevant research and briefing materials, to ensure that Treasury has a strong understanding of the Western Australian economy and economic policy priorities.
Treasury experience is highly valued in the wider public sector, opening up opportunities in other State Government agencies.
Further information about Treasury is available on our Careers page at www.wa.gov.au/treasury/careers. Our future plans and goals are provided in our 2021‑24 Strategic Plan.
About you

For the analyst role in the Economic Revenue and Forecasting directorate, you should also have experience in the analysis and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data.
Your work will be varied – using your research, conceptual, and analytical skills you will quickly understand economic issues and then prepare targeted, practical and distilled analysis and advice to inform and enable Government decision-making. Treasury employees have a well-grounded understanding and awareness of current events, and can anticipate, analyse, and strategically respond to emerging issues, exploring a range of possibilities to resolve complex problems.
In communicating your advice you will use well-developed written communication skills, and other presentation methods, to tailor your message to your key audience.
You will enjoy working collaboratively across Treasury, and across the public sector, to develop solutions. This can include the creation of strategies to address cross-sector and long-term issues.
You should want to challenge yourself and look for new and creative ways of doing things, to deliver better outcomes for the State.
