What will your typical day look like?
We are seeking a Pool of enthusiastic Technical Officers ranging from Level 1-5. This pool is for positions based at Northam, and possibly other regional locations. These positions require a can-do attitude, providing technical support for field trials, glasshouse and laboratory work for research projects in the Grains directorate. Your role will be to undertake day-to-day planning and implementation of technical work for research projects. We are looking for candidates with a range of skills including hands-on work in the field, processing and analysing soil and plant samples in the laboratory, data management and drone operation.

We have 1 permanent position for immediate filling in Northam in the iconic Avon Valley.

We are seeking passionate individuals with great interpersonal skills, knowledge and experience in agricultural practices techniques and methods.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge and expertise in the implementation of field, glasshouse or laboratory experiments.
- An understanding of the practices used in grain production in Western Australia
- Proven ability to work independently, and collaboratively within a team
- The capacity to problem solve issues as they arise for research projects on the research facility and within the local region.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills to resolve identified issues and contribute to the development of research plans and methods.
- Expertise in field-based research on soil or nutrient management.
- The ability to support the collection and compilation of soil and crop related data as needed.

Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense.
Special Requirements for this position:
- Diploma in a relevant discipline with relevant practical experience or substantial relevant experience. (Level 3-5)
- Certificate in a relevant discipline with some experience or a considerable level of relevant experience. (Level 2)
- Completion of Year 10 or equivalent education. (Level 1)
- Undertaking field work away from the base location for periods up to a working week may be required.
- Working outside normal hours to complete seasonal tasks may be required.
- Living in regional/semi-remote community may be required.
- A current and valid Western Australian "C" class (car) drivers’ license or equivalent is required (if not currently held must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense).
- Occasional travel to and from metropolitan and regional offices may be required.
- The contract of employment specifies terms and conditions relating to this position.
This pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the process and may be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise in this period. This includes opportunities located in other regional locations across the state and the Perth Metropolitan Area. Please note, being appointed to the pool does not guarantee you placement to a position.
