The Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) vision is to be recognised as a leader in providing world-class public transport services and solutions. As part of this vision, the PTA is looking to consolidate our approach to managing “competency” across a key range of occupational groups
The management of competencies at PTA has taken the form of a project for several years now and we are transitioning to a “business as usual” and more contemporary approach to competency management. This will require a new and streamlined approach to competency management. As a result, the PTA is looking for an extremely knowledgeable, passionate and proven Competency Manager to join our team. This new role offers the opportunity to create and develop a new team, provide leadership and guidance to others in a fast paced and exciting, operational environment. Importantly, you will be helping build the capability of the PTA too!
The Role
You will be responsible for leading a small, but dedicated team of staff and the effective leadership and management of this team will be critical to your team’s overall success.
Your proven technical knowledge and skills around competencies will help you navigate any changes you may implement and assist you with working with numerous divisions/branches in the implementation and maintenance of competency management requirements eg. frameworks, assessments, training, policies and procedures as well as reporting.
You will be comfortable and effective in leading the direction of the function within the PTA, breaking new ground and effectively managing the change that comes with this. You will be a proven leader and manager of change.
Effective stakeholder management will also be an important aspect of this role, as you will be a critical conduit and contact point between key stakeholders across the organisation. You will also represent the organisation at a national level, in terms of competency frameworks/matrices, qualifications and associated competency issues.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with competency management and the implementation and maintenance of competency frameworks, standards and assessments, preferably in a technical, engineering and /or rail environment, within a complex organisation;.
- Strong leadership and management skills
- The ability to initiate, steer and manage change effectively
- Effective stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated skills to work effectively with others and within a team environment
There is one position available for a Fixed Term Contract (4yrs) with possibility of extension and/or permanency, on a full time basis (either 37.5 hours or 40 hours per week).

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur for up to 12 months.
