Technical Officer (Exhibitions)

About the role
This position is responsible for exhibition construction, production, installation and maintenance across all permanent and temporary exhibition spaces at WA Museum Boola Bardip.
The role is responsible for elements of installation/deinstallation of temporary exhibitions including placement of furniture, installation of objects and interactives, lighting, and ongoing maintenance. Also coordinates and undertakes a range of activities associated with the maintenance and changeover of objects and displays in the permanent gallery exhibitions, coordinates the production of small, temporary displays in non-gallery spaces, and oversees the exhibition and design preparation, workshop and storage spaces onsite.
The position is based at the WA Museum Boola Bardip – Perth Cultural Centre, however, will be required to work at other museum sites, including regional sites.

Specific responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Preparation of galleries for exhibitions (placement of showcases/walls, temporary constructions), finishing to museum standard.
- Construction or modification of fixed and free-standing furniture (including showcases and plinths and temporary walls) for museum exhibition and their components.
- Installation/de-installation of exhibitions across all WA Museum sites.
- Maintenance of existing permanent and temporary exhibitions across all WA Museum sites.
- Maintenance of the workshops and equipment, including ordering of supplies and materials as required.
- Preparation of objects for display, including creation of object mounts.

- Demonstrated knowledge of conservation principles and experience handling cultural material and museum objects.
- Understanding of and ability to comply with safe working practices.

Eligibility to Apply
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

Pool Recruitment
This pool will be open for a period of 18 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, Fixed term, Full-time and Part-time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.
Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the WA Museum for the duration of the pool.
