About the Division
The Civil Law Division incorporates a number of services. In addition to those listed above, we also offer a service to NDIS participants, self-represented litigants in the Federal Court, and services related to money, housing and work.
The Civil Law Division is predominantly based in the Perth office of Legal Aid WA, with some positions located in one of our many regional offices throughout the State.
About the Roles
The Defence and Veterans Legal Service has been established to assist people to engage with the Royal Commission into Defence and Veterans Suicide. It provides legal advice, information, assistance and community outreach to veterans, current service people, their families, supporters and advocates wanting to engage with the Royal Commission. It is an independent, trauma-informed and culturally safe service delivered nationally using best practice standards and a human rights approach. It collaborates and consults with key stakeholders including peak organisations representing veterans and service people and community legal centres.
The Seniors Rights and Advocacy Service provides legal advice, information, representation, social support and community outreach to people over the age of 65. It provides advice in many areas related to Elder Abuse, including financial, emotional, psychological, social and physical abuse or violence; Guardianship and Administration; and new and emerging issues including Voluntary Assisted Dying, and issues related to COVID-19.
The Your Story, Disability Royal Commission service has been established to assist people to engage with the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. It provides legal advice, information, assistance and community outreach to people with disability, their families, supporters and advocates wanting to engage with the Royal Commission. It is an independent, trauma-informed and culturally safe service delivered nationally using best practice standards and a human rights approach. It collaborates and consults with key stakeholders.
About you
We are looking for a pool of dynamic lawyers who could operate in the Civil Law Division, providing advice and representation services to clients, as well as engaging with key stakeholders.
Ideally, you would have some experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and have an interest in working in a trauma-informed context within a multi-disciplinary team.
An understanding of the issues impacting our clients who access these services is highly regarded.
You will have capacity to travel within Western Australia, and potentially interstate (subject to any reasonable adjustments). Some of these roles may be based regionally.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in WA
- Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement
- Willingness to undertake a National Police Check and/or Working with Children Check.
