Budget Officer
We are one of the largest geographically spread road agencies in the world, responsible for more than 18,500 kilometres of road spread over 2.5 million square kilometres.
Our role is to plan, build and maintain Western Australia’s State Road Network valued at just over $46 billion. We work closely with our portfolio partners, Department of Transport and Public Transport Authority as well as local government to support the needs of all road users across WA by providing an integrated world-class road transport network.
Our services are delivered through the dedicated efforts of our employees who are located in ten regional and several metropolitan offices throughout the State.
About the Role
This is a Fixed Term appointment for up to 24 months with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency. Our Finance and Commercial Directorate delivers financial solutions that support achieving the Main Roads Western Australia’s outcomes to enhance productivity, sustainability, safety and reliability. This role sits in our Budget and Investment Planning branch which manages, develops and improves the budgeting and programming systems and processes that support Main Roads achieving the outcomes and goals for the community. The Budget Officer is a critical role, that, amongst other key deliverables, is responsible for
- Providing specialist support with the preparation of the consolidated annual and outer-years programs, the development, monitoring and reporting on financial activities of Main Roads.
- Taking action to ensure that internal budgeting systems align with external approvals.
- Developing, maintaining and providing financial management reporting for program development and monitoring.
About You
We’re looking for a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a team environment. This role operates in a complex financial environment with multiple funding sources and an annual Capital Works program over $1.5 billion. To thrive in this role, you’ll enjoy embracing challenges and work collaboratively with your colleagues to address them effectively and efficiently.
A key component of the role is to monitor, analyse, interpret and make recommendations on the financial performance of projects and programs ensuring the early identification of variations, trends, issues, solutions and opportunities. This would include addressing issues such as expenditure versus budgets versus receipts, both actual and forecast, and reasons for variations with recommendations of appropriate actions.
