About the role
Next Step is seeking suitably qualified Addiction Medicine Consultants for positions available in Perth’s South Metro corridor. One position is available for immediate start with others becoming available from early to mid-2022. The positions are located in Perth’s south metro corridor at Rockingham, may also work across Mandurah and/or be based at community outpatient clinics or within hospital ED departments as Alcohol and Other Drug Consultation Liaison.
The ‘Addiction Medicine Consultant’ provides clinical leadership to Next Step’s Community Alcohol and Drug Services. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist medical services to patients of the metropolitan outpatient services and hold responsibility for managing and treating a case load of clients seeking AOD treatment and support. As a member of a multidisciplinary team you will work alongside doctors, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, social workers and external agencies to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care.
As a Consultant you will provide leadership, training, support and mentoring for doctors in training, Next Step staff, and other WA clinicians. You will also be a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine.

As this occupation is based in a public healthcare facility, the successful candidate is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This requirement is pursuant to the WA Government’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for WA Workforces and the MHC’s Vaccination Policy, unless exempt.
You will work between the hours of 8.30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, with on-call duties as per the roster.

Next Step is the leading government drug and alcohol treatment service in Western Australia providing a range of clinical services. The treatment services provided by Next Step include:
- Outpatient services at East Perth and via integrated Community Alcohol and Drug Services at seven metropolitan locations
- The Inpatient Withdrawal Unit at East Perth
- An onsite pharmacy service based at East Perth
- Outpatient and inpatient youth services via the Integrated Drug and Alcohol Youth Service.
