The Opportunity;
We are seeking an experienced individual to undertake the role of Senior Heritage Officer in Geraldton. This is a full time, fixed term position for 9 months (with a possible 9 months extension). Applications from Aboriginal members of the community will be preferenced for this position under Section 51 of the WA Equal Opportunity Act. However, non-Aboriginal members of the community are also encouraged to apply.
Reporting to the Principal Heritage Officer Regions, the successful candidate will:
- Undertake project work relating to Aboriginal heritage, across Western Australia in line with the strategic direction of the heritage directorate including the provision of advice to external stakeholders relating to the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop heritage projects to preserve and protect Aboriginal Sites
- Support the Principal Heritage Officer Regions in identifying and achieving heritage outcomes in line with the agreed Directorate plans.
To be successful in this role, you need to demonstrate;
- Experience in effectively and sensitively communicating with Aboriginal Australians
- Sound experience in project management, including planning and the ability to deliver projects on time
- Knowledge of and/or experience in current issues and trends in Aboriginal affairs
- Ability to apply competent research, analytical and problem-solving skills to developing and implementing innovative solutions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to negotiate and facilitate effective outcomes for Aboriginal Australians.
