The Opportunity.
This is an exciting opportunity for a registered veterinarian in a diversity of agricultural areas, to contribute to the national animal health program by delivering disease surveillance and animal health control programs for the livestock and intensive industries. DPIRD works collaboratively with private veterinarians, industry service providers and producers to generate disease knowledge than underpins the WA Livestock export markets and enables early detection of emergency diseases and a rapid response. You would be working as part of a team of experienced field and diagnostic veterinarians supporting the surveillance and control programs. An ability to investigate livestock diseases and work in a team to deliver programs in accordance with state and national policies and procedures is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Building effective relationships with relevant staff members, farmers, private veterinarians, community and industry groups to actively promote biosecurity
- Undertaking veterinary investigations to assist in the maintenance of the high biosecurity status of Western Australia’s livestock and aquatic industries
- Responding to disease incursions and working closely with impacted producers and industry
- Use scientific expertise to assist in biosecurity policy, planning and preparedness
- Present information as required at conferences, seminars, workshops and field days

Location:
Positions are currently available and are based in Katanning, Narrogin, Broome and South Perth. A vehicle is provided for work related activity and subsidised accommodation may be available in some regions.
The Ideal Candidate.
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated, recent graduates or experienced Veterinarians to join the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. You will be working in regional or central locations in Western Australia and will maintain up to date knowledge and awareness of relevant agriculture industry issues and trends. The successful candidates will have a genuine interest or experience in the livestock industries of Australia and an understanding of epidemiological principles and pathology of disease investigations, whilst providing input into strategic planning processes regarding animal health. Various levels of veterinary experience and knowledge are being sought.

- Lead and empower others: Proven ability to lead teams and work collaboratively in a team environment contributing to the achievement of departmental level outcomes.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. These positions are located in Katanning, Narrogin, Perth Metro and Broome (other regional locations may be considered).
The pool will be valid for a period of twelve (12) months following finalisation of the process and may be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise in this period. Please note, being appointed to the pool does not guarantee you placement to a position.
