WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated individual to join the team at the Kimberley Population Health Unit. This is a Fixed Term Full Time appointment for up to 5 years, with the possibility of extension(s).
As a District Medical Officer - Non-Procedural you will provide comprehensive medical services in the three main areas of maternal and child health; chronic conditions prevention and coordinated care; and communicable disease control. The Fitzroy Valley is the focus of direct clinical care and the role also participates in service development and reform; clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives addressing Aboriginal health across primary health care. It provides clinical support and contributes to teaching and up skilling of primary health care staff and students throughout the region. This position is substantively line managed by the Director, Population health Unit, but has a professional reporting line to the Regional Director of Medical Services.
Suitable candidates must be eligible for unconditional registration by the Medical Board of Western Australia (AHPRA), hold fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine or relevant equivalent experience as a Vocationally Registered Senior Medical Practitioner/General Practitioner. Demonstrated understanding of cultural factors and social determinants particularly relating to Aboriginal health, ability in, and commitment to, the provision of ambulatory/community based services and utilising population health skills to address health with significant clinical experience in the primary health care setting including shared care. Highly developed communication, interpersonal, team membership, and negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

The Salary as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2016:
Shown as Fixed Term Full Time (80 hours per FT) Rates effective as at August 2021
DMO (Non Procedural) Year 1- 6 $332,509 - $415,559 p.a.*
*Includes Arrangement A base salary $274,268 - $349,766 p.a. plus 10.00% employer contributed superannuation, professional development allowance $30,814 p.a.
In addition rental and travel subsidies apply; District Allowance of up to $8,018 p.a. gratuity payment equivalent to 12 weeks salary after the first 3 years of continuous service and after each subsequent year a lump sum equivalent to four weeks salary is paid; access to salary packaging up to $19,000 p.a., professional development opportunities and study leave/assistance, and flexible leave arrangements apply.

Our Regional Hospitals Include:
- Fitzroy Crossing hospital provides high-quality and indigenous health services from modern amenities offering a 12-bed facility.
- Halls Creek Hospital has eight acute beds, plus four boarding beds and one palliative care bed. In addition, medical staff provide visiting services weekly to the communities of Balgo, Yiyili and Mulan.
- Kununurra Located 37km from the border of the Northern Territory, Kununurra District Hospital is primarily a GP/DMO operated service offering 32 inpatient beds. Additionally, the hospital staff provide clinics and telephone support at Wyndham and Halls Creek Hospitals, Warman and Kalumburu communities.
- Wyndham is Australia's most northern town, 105km northwest of Kununurra. The hospital is a five inpatient facility and services a small population of 900.
- Derby is the main access point to Gibb River Road, which is home to spectacular gorges. It has a friendly, easy-going outback character. Derby Health Service supports 22 acute care beds plus an extra four beds in maternity.
