Practical Legal Training (PLT) - 2021 Work Experience Program

Are you a law graduate looking to complete your practical legal training in the second half of 2021?

Are you passionate about social justice and serving the community?

Then apply to complete your practical work experience hours with Legal Aid WA.

Our Practical Legal Training (PLT) program is for law graduates who are enrolled in a practical legal training course approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA and want to complete the practical work experience component at Legal Aid WA.

Participants in our PLT program will be placed in a division of Legal Aid WA’s Perth office, where they will work under the supervision of an appointed solicitor to complete workplace tasks. Regional placements may also be available on request, however Legal Aid WA will not cover any travel or accommodation costs associated with these placements.

Placements are to commence in the second half of 2021. Hours are flexible and placements may be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis, but must be completed within a maximum period of six months.

To be eligible for our PLT program, you must be a law graduate or a final year law student expecting to complete your qualification mid-year in 2021. Applicants who have already been admitted to legal practice will not be accepted. A conflict of interest check will also apply.

The following dates apply to this PLT Program recruitment and selection process:

Applications open: 19 July 2021

Applications close: 1 August 2021, by 5pm

Applicants are required to submit the following:

  • a fully completed online application form (this will automatically generate when you click on the “Apply for Job” button);
  • resume (no longer than five pages);
  • copy of your academic record; and
  • covering letter (no longer than two pages) addressing the selection criteria outlined in the “How to apply” document attached.
