Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking a committed and effective instructional leader to join us in the role of Associate Principal. This role is pivotal in leading our community commitment to improve student outcomes. Leading our focus on high aspiration for all our students and staff is central to the work that the successful applicant will undertake.
In this role, the Associate Principal will be able to strategically develop and deploy a range of resources so that we continue to achieve excellence in wellbeing and pastoral care. The successful applicant will be able to show how they have developed themselves and others so that the performance of each person in an educational setting is maximised. Your proven capacity to strategically lead our Student Services Team so that they support the individual and collective needs of our young people is essential. Further, the successful applicant will have shown that they have the skills, attributes and experience to lead the Student Services Team so that they facilitate whole staff engagement in our agenda to promote and support positive behaviours and wellbeing. It will be a significant advantage if you can demonstrate how you have engaged with the work of Seligman (PERMA) and/or the Western Australian Positive Behaviour Support Program to improve student outcomes.
Applicants who can show their success using Functional Behaviour Analysis, trauma informed practice and therapeutic approaches to engage with young people, their families and outside agencies will be well placed to join our College as a part of our highly skilled and progressive Executive Team.
As an experienced school leader you will strategically allocate resources to maximise student performance, engagement and wellbeing. The role requires an ability to evaluate and collaborate as you lead our College through the process of making evidence based decision about how best to meet the needs of all our students.

As a key leader in our College, you will work collaboratively to deliver the strategic intent of the College. Experience leading student engagement, behaviour and wellbeing relates directly to this role so the successful applicant will have in-depth understanding of system monitoring tools and how evidence continually informs as about our setting as we lead the Byford SC self-assessment schedule. In doing this, you will continually strive to develop the data literacy of your colleagues.

Byford SC has a strong focus on ICT and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) which includes an established BYOD program. The successful applicant will be required to embrace 21st century learning practices and participate in leading innovation and change to pedagogy.
The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia. This 'Aspire' program provides these students with access to the university's staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
