The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking a dynamic, flexible primary teacher with skills and experience in English ideally across Pre-Primary to Year 6 to join their team in the roll of Principal Consultant – Primary Curriculum and Assessment.
The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm for working as part of a self-motivated team and who can conceptualise and complete curriculum projects.
The Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate within the Division provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Curriculum Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate is seeking to appoint a Principal Consultant – Primary Curriculum and Assessment with a strong background in curriculum and assessment design across the primary years of schooling.
The positions reports to the Manager – Curriculum and Assessment, amongst others. The successful applicant will undertake the following duties:
- Develop and review curriculum and assessment support materials for the primary years of schooling;
- Monitor, review and report on the implementation of curriculum initiatives, standards, projects and programs,
- Develop, implement and review moderation processes for the primary years of schooling;
- Provide verbal and written curriculum support to schools;
- Draft high level advice, correspondence and briefings for the Minister, the Board and the Executive Director, school systems/sector and others as required.
- Organise, facilitate and conduct seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations and school systems/sector as required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, The Early Year Learning Framework, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership

Employees will be required to:

- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;

- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- completed any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
