Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint an innovative and experienced Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) teacher with the ability to teach Senior School Courses of Study and build capacity in the delivery of these subjects. The ability to teach Psychology, Politics and Law or Business Management and Enterprise in particular would be highly desirable.
The successful applicant will be a passionate teacher of HASS with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. We are seeking a teacher who is highly reflective about their teaching practice and with a commitment to evidenced based decision-making. Applicants will possess knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and ideally, experience in leading other staff in the delivery and review of pedagogy and Year 7-12 HASS teaching programs. Applicants will possess the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school curriculum using a positive, student-focused approach, and have proven success working with students across a range of ability levels. Applicants be willing to commit to developing shared practices that align with College priorities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a willingness to liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks to establish strong community partnerships are also desirable.
Byford SC has an established Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) (iPads) program and a strong focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The successful applicant will be required to embrace 21st century learning practices and participate in leading innovation and change to pedagogy. The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia. This ‘Aspire’ program provides these students with access to the university's staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience. Teachers with an ability to effectively differentiate instruction to improve student outcomes and challenge students to achieve at the highest level will be highly regarded.
Byford SC is an Independent Public School located approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD. Our College provides for the secondary education needs of students from Byford and the surrounding communities, with our current cohort of 1200 Year 7-12 students, looking to grow to approximately 1350 students in Years 7-12 in 2019. Byford SC has also become a focal point for secondary education provision for students with disabilities when in 2017 our inclusion facilities opened.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
