Yanchep Beach Primary School (YBPS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking Noongar Languages Teacher to join our friendly team.
The Aboriginal languages program is a key component of the school’s cultural goals and consequently the successful applicant will be willing to contribute to the Cultural Standards Framework committee. The ability to develop high relational trust is essential. Professional growth is supported through a team approach to planning with significant investment being made in teacher knowledge and skills. Specialist program staff are provided with access to instructional professional learning in which they are supported to utilise in their roles as required.
The successful applicant will be competent in an Aboriginal dialect, preferably Noongar which is local to YBPS. The ability to translate to Australian Standard English is required. Sound classroom management practices are preferable, with some training in CMS desirable, although this will be provided.
To be suitable for this role strong interpersonal skills are desirable, with some knowledge of curriculum and assessment processes. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. The successful applicant will be able to promote the language as a valuable part of a well-rounded education and collaborate with other staff members to ensure a consistent approach to whole school strategies.
YBPS is an Independent Public School located within a new coastal estate 60 kilometres north of Perth. The school opened in January 2014 with 319 students and has grown rapidly to a total enrolment of 750 students in August 2020.
YBPS school's staff are merit-selected and lead by example. They constantly challenge themselves to deliver a differentiated curriculum to appeal to the variety of learners and to support each individual student's journey to becoming a lifelong learner. Our emphasis is on student progress, measuring success by how much each child develops and grows.
This is a highly specialised role. Noongar skills are essential. In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered. In this circumstance, a fixed term appointment as an untrained teacher for the 2021 school year will be offered.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
