Are you a final year law student or law graduate looking to complete your practical legal training in the first half of 2021?
Do you have a demonstrated interest in criminal, family or civil law and a desire to gain more experience in one or more of these practice areas?
Are you passionate about social justice and serving the community?
Then apply to complete your practical work experience hours with Legal Aid WA.
Our Practical Legal Training (PLT) program is for law graduates who are enrolled in a practical legal training course approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA and want to complete the practical work experience component at Legal Aid WA.
Participants in our PLT program will be placed in a division of Legal Aid WA’s Perth office, where they will work under the supervision of an appointed solicitor to complete workplace tasks. Regional placements may also be available on request, however Legal Aid WA will not cover any travel or accommodation costs associated with these placements.
Placements are to commence in the first half of 2021. Hours are flexible and placements may be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis, but must be completed within a maximum period of six months.
To be eligible for our PLT program, you must be a law graduate or a final year law student expecting to complete your qualification by the end of February 2021 at the latest. Applicants who have already been admitted to legal practice will not be accepted.
It is a condition of acceptance to the PLT program that you must be enrolled in an approved PLT course by the time you commence your placement with us. A conflict of interest check will also apply.
