This is an eight (8) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 4, 2020 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency
The WA College of Agriculture – Denmark (the College) is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to become part of their exceptional team as the Technical Officer – Agricultural Instruction within the beef cattle enterprise.
The successful applicant will maintain the beef cattle enterprise, deliver and assess training to students in Certificates II & III in Agriculture and be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health requirements in the work area.
The College Beef Cattle enterprise consists of a commercial herd along with a small Stud. Currently the College is breeding approximately 100 commercial Angus cows with a smaller Simmental Stud. Experience with the handling and show preparation of cattle would be highly desired.
The successful applicant will be required to assist with work and training in other farm enterprises such as dairy, sheep and general farm maintenance.
As the successful applicant you would display honesty, integrity and initiative, and have a willingness to teach others. Being able to work with students in a team environment in a teaching/training capacity is also highly regarded.
Located just east of the town centre of Denmark, The College is a 560 hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10, 11 and 12 students offering a wide variety of studies with an agricultural focus
While the majority of students are residential, there are a number of day students and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. From its early beginnings in 1942 on the site of the current campus, The College has evolved considerably and moved to its present purpose built facility in 1999, with a capacity of around 140 students.
Our educational program is balanced and provides a mix of hands-on practical work complemented by supporting knowledge provided in a classroom environment. The College is unique in that it offers accredited industry training alongside secondary education. As well as Certificates in Agriculture and related trades, the college offers a variety of accredited short coursed for study each year.
The College offers students wide range of excursions and camps throughout their attendance. Students attend shows such as the Perth Royal Show; Albany Agricultural Show and Wagin Woolarama. There are regular camps to regional beaches, surfing and scuba diving and local and regional sports including the Country week competition in Perth.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
Please note: The salary level for this position will be determined after the successful applicant is assessed as addressing all eligibility and selection criteria indicated in the relevant attached JDF in the context of the outcomes and selection criteria described.
The highest rate an applicant can start at as a L1 is Level 1.4 (as negotiated with the principal). However, applicants may still be able to commence at a L2.1 or L3.1 if suitably qualified or with requisite experience.
Level 2, $62,172 - $67,256 per annum (PSCA 2019)
Level 3, $70,896 - $76,717 per annum (PSCA 2019)
