The Western Australian Museum aims to inspire people to explore and share their identity, environment, culture and sense of place, and to contribute to the diversity and creativity of our world.

The Museum preserves, documents and shares collections relating to the State’s natural and cultural heritage. It collaborates with people across Western Australia to share the stories and voices of its diverse peoples. The Museum also works alongside national and international organisations, contributing to global research, promoting life-long learning, and developing and hosting world-class exhibitions.

This position has a critical role on the Museum’s Executive Management Team, to ensure the effective management of all the Museum’s regional activity.

Conditions

This is a full-time permanent vacancy. 

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants for this position may be considered for ‘similar’ vacancies within the Culture and Arts Portfolio and/or the wider public sector which arise within a reasonable period of time. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Future vacancies may be considered - permanent and fixed term, part time and full time. 

A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy. A current C Class drivers license will also be required.

 Job Description

The focus of this role is to ensure that the WA Museum provides a high-quality museum service to the regions of Western Australia.  In respect of this there are three key requirements:

To lead and manage the teams  at the Museum’s regional sites in Albany, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, and Gwoonwardu Mia in Carnarvon. This will involve providing leadership, support and advice to the regional managers in each of these museums in order to build regional capability and responsiveness in the planning, development, delivery and management of regional museum services.

To lead the delivery of the Museum’s regional strategy and contribute to regional initiatives and projects, including planning, delivery, risk management and stakeholder engagement

To lead and manage the WA Museum’s offsite activation team, evaluating ongoing project and partnership performance, and providing professional advice and support to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
