Who we are
A primary responsibility of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is to conserve, sustainably develop and share the use of Western Australia’s Aquatic resources and their ecosystems for the benefit of present and future generations.
We do this through managing fisheries and aquatic ecosystems, assessment and monitoring of fish stocks, enforcement and education, biosecurity management and licencing commercial and recreational fishing activity, including commercial aquaculture.

We are currently seeking applications from people interested in a career as a Fisheries and Marine Officer (FMO). Those applicants found suitable will be placed into an appointment pool from which permanent and/or fixed term opportunities may be offered as vacancies arise. The pool will operate for a period of 24 months from the end of the review period. Please note, inclusion in the pool does not guarantee a placement.
Fisheries and Marine Officers play a major role in the protection and conservation of Western Australia’s aquatic environment. Law enforcement and prosecutions under legislation administered by the Department are key aspects of the position. Fisheries and Marine Officers are also regularly involved in the delivery of community awareness presentations to schools and public groups.

This position is located in South Fremantle for the duration of the training course (4 months). Following successful completion of the training course, location placements within the metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia will be determined.
Please note, any successful candidate, including current employees of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, will be offered employment subject to the award and agreement conditions that apply to the advertised role as outlined in the attached JDF. By accepting an offer of appointment, the successful applicant accepts the conditions and entitlements under the specified award and agreement.
