We are looking for Psychologists/Clinical Psychologists to join us for this opportunity:

In addition to regular peer supervision and individual supervision by a provider of your choice, we also offer other opportunities for formal professional development and flexibility in how your work day is structured. As a member of the Psychology Unit you will have the opportunity to participate in state and national level forums to shape and influence key mental health and wellbeing strategies for policing and other first responders. Suitable psychologists will be supported to become a Board accredited supervisor and encouraged to take a leadership role in applied research projects.
Where appointed at Specified Calling Level 2 (SC2) it is expected that the candidate will work towards endorsement in an approved area of practice.
This role does require you to undertake regular intrastate travel and some interstate state travel as part of national collaborations. You are also required to be on the on-call roster, usually no more than one week in five.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
This role provides specialised psychological assessments, interventions and support as well as critical incident stress management services to Western Australia Police Force (WA Police Force) personnel. Provides a specialist advisory and consultancy service to supervisors, managers and other relevant personnel concerning the welfare of WA Police Force personnel. Liaises with other public sector agencies and private providers concerning ongoing services for personnel and develops and contributes to Agency health and welfare policies and programs. Prepares professional assessment reports, treatment plans and recommendations.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE
It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to receive a waiver.

Qualifications and Experience
- Accredited Masters, Doctorate or equivalent degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- A minimum of five years experience post registration.
- Previous experience with 1st responders and working with trauma and complex trauma is highly desirable.
- Consideration may be given to offering fixed term appointment at Specified Calling 1 for applicants with a four year degree with current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia who have had substantial experience (minimum 6 years) of working in a law enforcement/1st responder environment and dealing with complex trauma. Candidates appointed at SC1 will be expected attain SC2 qualifications in accordance with an agreed Individual Development Plan.
Clinical Assessment
- Practical experience performing complex and specialised clinical assessments. Organising and conducting psychological assessments in line with referral questions. Knowledge of and experience in application and interpretation of a wide range of clinical assessment instruments and methods. A well-established ability to assess risk clients may hold for self and/or others.
Stress Management
- Providing appropriate early intervention, counselling, support and advice to individuals and groups affected by post incident stress.
Counselling
- Providing counselling to varied client base, in terms of demographics and presenting issues. A well-established ability to conceptualise client difficulties with the necessary depth and breadth and to tailor interventions according to clients’ needs. Planning, managing and prioritising caseloads.
Communication
- Developing and evaluating training programs. Delivering presentations to groups on a range of psychological topics. Providing specialist consultant advice. Liaising with a range of personnel both within and external to the Agency. Preparing correspondence, psycho-legal reports, policies and procedures. Working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Applicants are also required to submit a Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

OTHER CONDITIONS
There are currently two (2) vacant positions available within the Psychology Unit.
In addition to filling these two (2) vacancies, a POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the metropolitan area. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.
Once an applicant within the POOL accepts a permanent vacancy offer within the metropolitan area, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicants for these positions are not current WA Police Force employees. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
