This is a permanent full-time position commencing January 2020.
The Directorate is seeking to appoint one full time Principal Consultant however would also consider the appointment of two successful applicants at 0.6FTE and 0.4FTE.

Please note, the 0.4 FTE position reports to the Manager, Curriculum and Assessment with a focus on early childhood education delivery in Western Australia. The 0.6FTE position reports to the Manager, Strategic and External Relations and has a focus on overseas schools delivering Western Australian early years curriculum. Applicants applying for the 0.6FTE position must be able to undertake overseas travel as required.
Both positions will undertake the following duties:
- develop and review curriculum and assessment support materials
- monitor, review and report on the implementation of curriculum initiatives, standards, projects and programs
- develop, implement and review moderation related processes for the early childhood years of schooling
- provide verbal and written curriculum related support to schools
- draft high level advice, correspondence and briefings for the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, school systems/sector and others as required
- organise, facilitate and conduct seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations and school systems/sector as required.The School Curriculum and Standards Division (Division) provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate within the Division provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Authority has been licensing Western Australian curriculum programs to overseas schools for more than 32 years and has commenced work to grow the number of overseas schools doing so.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, The Early Year Learning Framework, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, cross-cultural awareness, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- hold or obtain a valid passport and be eligible to travel to Authority endorsed interstate and overseas destinations
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment and;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
