The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant, Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment (International) English as an Additional Language/Dialect and English, to be part of a challenging, rewarding and exciting international education opportunity.
The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of, the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum and ensures assessment standards to enable all students being taught Western Australian Curriculum to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Authority has been licensing Western Australian curriculum programs to overseas schools for more than 32 years and has commenced work to grow the number of overseas schools doing so. As part of this growth, the Authority is looking for a suitable candidate to undertake the following duties in the position of Principal Consultant, Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment (International) English as an Additional Language/Dialect and English, who will undertake the following:
- manage and provide leadership for the development and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials;
- monitor the implementation of courses, projects, programs and their review, while also providing high level curriculum expertise in the production of quality Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) examinations and marking keys;
- facilitate consultation and collaborative processes between school systems/sector, schools and other stakeholder organisations to share ideas and devise common approaches on the implementation of the Authority’s policies and procedures;
- manage contract writers and associated physical resources, if required, in a manner which meets legislated requirements;
- provide executive support for advisory committees as required;
- provide high level advice, correspondence and briefings to the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, education systems and sector as required;
- develop and implement moderation processes for the secondary years of schooling and organise, facilitate and conduct seminars, international school visits;
- develop and implement information sessions for staff from Western Australian schools, regions, professional associations, systems and sectors as required;
- support schools, located overseas, who are delivering the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (Outline) and WACE, including on-site visits.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- hold or obtain a valid passport and be eligible to travel to Authority endorsed interstate and overseas destinations;
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
