Job Description
Undertakes designated marine monitoring, evaluation and reporting for the conservation of Western Australia’s marine biodiversity, with a particular focus on benthic/coastal ecosystems (e.g. mangroves, macroalgae) and environmental processes (e.g. seawater temperature, oceanography, water quality) in marine parks and reserves, under the immediate direction of senior staff.
Provides expert scientific advice on these matters.
Applicants should note that the position will require field trips away from home.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following six (6) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

Degree in marine biological science from a recognised university, or an approved equivalent qualification (Essential), with a post-graduate qualification and experience in marine science (Desirable).

Demonstrated experience conducting research and/or monitoring on benthic/coastal ecosystems and/or environmental processes.

Demonstrated experience in spatial analysis techniques and statistics, including the analysis of remotely sensed products using relevant software (e.g. ArcGIS, R).

Demonstrated database, data analysis and scientific writing skills, with a record of publishing marine science in peer-reviewed journals.

Rescue SCUBA diving qualification or equivalent (Essential) or ADAS Restricted Occupational SCUBA to 30m qualification (Part 1) (AS2815.6) (Desirable).

Broad knowledge of marine biodiversity in Western Australia (Essential), and knowledge of marine biodiversity conservation and management (Desirable).
Note: In relation to essential criterion 2, we are specifically looking for applicants to provide examples of experience related to mangroves, macroalgae or similar benthic habitat for "benthic/coastal ecosystems", and seawater temperature, oceanography and water quality for "environmental processes".
