Who are we looking for?
Following the promotion of the previous Associate Principal, Rossmoyne Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a strategic and innovative leader to join our leadership team in the position of Associate Principal – Quality Teaching and Workforce. This role will suit an experienced, high performing secondary or primary school leader.
We are looking for an applicant with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills who is committed to achieving exceptional educational outcomes for all students. These skills will see you negotiate effectively, develop and maintain strong relationships with staff and students. You will continue to support the established performance and development culture through a deep understanding of how to coach beginning and experienced staff and build their confidence to explore and excel.
The Associate Principal will be an integral member of the school’s executive team. You will work closely with the Principal to strategically plan, innovate and promote the school’s vision, mission and values in the school community.
About the role
As the Associate Principal, you will focus on leading the school’s quality teaching strategy, associated professional learning, career development initiatives and strategic workforce planning. You will be an expert in current pedagogical research and the role that leaders play in transforming learning.
With a school-wide focus on student achievement, you will identify and implement professional learning opportunities for staff that are aligned with staff learning plans and school priorities. Through the provision of regular and effective feedback, you will review, monitor and motivate staff to keep their skills current through the use of research and new technologies. Rossmoyne Senior High School is a SEQTA school. An understanding of and ability to lead the roll out of SEQTA would be considered advantageous.
Your organisational and planning skills will enable you to forecast the school’s needs and priorities, to effectively develop and implement successful workforce planning strategies. You will anticipate change and put strategies in place to ensure the school is equipped to meet student learning outcomes and performance expectations for years to come. Taking into consideration the school’s business plan, financial and budget considerations, and legislative requirements, you will ensure the school has the right people with the right skills and who demonstrate the qualities outlined in the school’s Readiness Framework.
You will be a prominent representative of the Principal, to both the community and School Board, overseeing the school’s strategic and operational plans, including resource management. As the senior Associate Principal, when the Principal is unavailable you will take on the responsibility of Principal. As a member of the school’s executive, you will establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with the school community, ensuring all students’ needs are met. Through building a culture of trust and collaboration, you will encourage staff and student feedback to contribute to decision making. You will play a key role in human resource management, recruitment and selection of teaching staff and school leaders.
With the commitment and desire to create and sustain a student-centred learning environment built on strong relationships, you will identify and implement strategies to meet the diverse needs of students and their families. You will communicate effectively and with diplomacy, and modify your leadership behaviour to obtain the best outcomes from all, whilst modelling and promoting the school’s vision, mission and core values to develop a staff culture dedicated to the success of all students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
