Graduate Project Officers
WANTED: University graduates to work in Australia’s most innovative government agency
We’ll be the first to admit it – we’re getting old! Not only do our origins lie with Western Australia’s first Surveyor General in 1829, but our workforce isn’t getting any younger either. That’s why we’re specifically seeking university graduates who are under the age of 25, as a measure to improve our diversity, in line with the Equal Opportunity Act (WA) 1984.
Landgate’s Graduate Program is a structured 12-month program, and next year’s program commences in February 2020. By Joining a public sector agency renowned for innovative practices, you will gain practical knowledge and experience across our business, laying the foundation for a successful career in the public sector.
In 2020 we’re looking for two kinds of graduates, let’s call them Technical and Generalist. Our Technical graduates will have a qualification in either property and/or valuations or spatial science. For our Generalists, we’re accepting applications from graduates from all fields of study, but we’re mostly interested in commerce, IT, social sciences, and law.
Graduates in our Generalist stream will work on a variety of projects across the business, making use of their individual qualifications, skills, experience and interests. Technical graduates will spend more time specifically in their field of study (i.e. if you’re a property/valuations graduate, you’ll probably be working with our Valuers).
No matter what, you will work with people who value collaboration, flexibility and innovation.
During the program you’ll be supported by an experienced mentor from within the business, participate in a tailored professional development program (both on and off the job), build networks with current and past graduates from within Landgate and across the public sector, and have access to our extensive wellbeing program.
To learn more about what our Graduate program is really like, check out our website.
If you need to, you can contact Kristie Kent, Strategic P&C Consultant, on 08 9273 9067 or email kristie.kent@landgate.wa.gov.au to discuss the program in more detail (but don’t send your application here).
So… what are we really after?
It’s a special kind of person who becomes a successful Landgate graduate. Our best graduates are:
- Team players
- Creative, innovative thinkers
- Great problem-solvers
- Super organised
- But most of all… positive and enthusiastic!
Also, our values are vitally important to how we do our business – you’ll need to be able to demonstrate you are the right cultural fit for our business. You can find out more about our values on our website, as well as more about what we can offer you as an employer.
The technical stuff…
OK, so there are a few more requirements:
- You need to have a Bachelor degree that was (or will be) completed in 2018 or 2019.
- To apply for the Technical stream, this Bachelor degree also needs to be in property, valuations or a spatial science
- You need to be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident
- You’ll need to be under 25 years old, as at 31 December 2020
Have you ticked all these boxes? If so, don’t delay, apply today!
We understand you’re busy – exams, essays, study groups, work, nights out, obligatory visits to the parentals... You don’t have time to fill out lengthy applications or write long-winded essays addressing selection criteria. So, we want to make this as easy for you as possible. If you think Landgate is the place for you, all you need to do is:
- Provide a copy of your academic record or evidence of your degree (we need to make sure you’re a recent graduate, after all)
- Provide a copy of your CV (we’ve all got one of those, right?)
- Provide a one page cover letter explaining why you want to work for Landgate and why this role.
- Answer a few short (we promise) questions online
(If you’re successful through the first phase, there’ll be more for you to do later.)
Positions in our Graduate Program are on a fixed term contract basis and can be undertaken full time or part time. If you’re not successful, but we still think you’re pretty great, you may be offered a position in the following 12 months, if a similar position becomes available.
You’ll also need to provide, at your own cost, a recent (within the last six months) Police Clearance before you can work for Landgate. That’s just how we roll.
Please make sure you get your application to us by the closing time as we are unable to accept late applications.
