Legal Aid WA is seeking a solicitor with a commitment to social justice and awareness of Aboriginal legal issues to join our team in South Hedland.
With an emphasis on criminal and family law, solicitors at this level undertake a range of legal work. This includes research, case work, assistance, advice and representation, duty lawyer services, community legal education and dispute resolution services. These duties include direct contact with clients at Legal Aid offices, courts, prisons, detention centres and regular outreach to circuit courts and communities which involves driving long distances, traveling by light aircraft and overnight stays.
The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and as part of a team in often high pressure situations that might be time sensitive and require high level communication skills to manage clients presenting with drug and alcohol issues, mental health issues or presenting as generally distressed.
This position is well suited to entry level solicitors and presents challenging, yet rewarding opportunities for personal and professional development.
Legal Aid WA is an independent statutory authority funded by the State Government and Commonwealth Governments. It provides services to over 100,000 clients each year in the areas of criminal, family and civil law and through Legal Aid offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, South Hedland, Broome, Kununurra, Carnarvon and Christmas Island.
