Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced individual with a passion for rural and remote healthcare to the newly created position of Director Medical Services at Geraldton Regional Hospital (AHC). This dynamic position will oversee day to day operational management of medical services and provide medical leadership including coordination of Medical Clinical Governance and continuous improvement activities for the site. This position will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical services providers’ ensuring high quality and safe clinical care is provided to the local community.
In addition, the Director Medical Services will work in partnership and support the Regional Medical Director in implementing the WACHS Midwest Strategic Directives, ensuring the regional health network performance.
Area Profile: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors.
Geraldton is home to 40,000 people and is a thriving and sustainable city. The city has one of the state’s busiest ports and is an important logistic centre for mining, lobster fishing, farming and tourism. Just over 400 km from Perth, Geraldton has a Mediterranean climate and is located between a spectacular coastline and farming landscape.
Hospital Services: The Geraldton Regional Hospital is a 76 bedded hospital under WACHS-Midwest. This is a secondment hospital in Midwest region with a very busy Emergency and Medical department. This hospital also caters regions like Northampton, Mullewa, Morawa, Three Springs and Meekatharra. These regions have small hospitals with services provided by GPs.
There are approximately 30,000 ED presentations and 3500 admissions via ED per annum. Extended medical services provided include renal dialysis unit with12 beds, chemotherapy unit, Oncology centre, palliative care, stroke and Rehabilitation unit, Hospital in the home service (HITH) and Post-acute care service (PACS). The hospital has a 6 bed high dependency unit, a dedicated Pathology department (Path west) and Radiology department with full time Radiologist. There is a MRI facility supported by Medicare available at St. John of God Hospital which is near to the hospital campus.

Qualifications: Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australian. It is beneficial that the applicant have/or be working towards post graduate qualifications in medical administration or business and/or have significant demonstrated experience in Medical Administration.
