Traffic Operations Officer
About the Role
The Traffic Operations Officers are responsible for monitoring and optimising safety and efficiency of real time road traffic flow on the State Road Network. The role involves observation, decision making and team work to assess and respond to the impact of traffic incidents on the network. Through use of Intelligent Transport Systems, devices and resources such as CCTV, traffic signals and response services, the Traffic Operations Officers act to mitigate network disruptions and contribute to the safety of road users.
A single vacancy is being advertised, however it is anticipated that more positions may become available. A ‘pool’ of suitable applicants will therefore be established through this recruitment process and will operate for up to 12 months. Applicants may be appointed to roles as required.
About You
To be successful in the role of Traffic Operations Officer, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Proficient computer and typing skills
- Good understanding of traffic management
- Knowledge of the road network
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Work well in a team environment
- Work well under pressure while following policies and procedures
- Remain calm and work through stressful situations.
Real Time Traffic Operations, with its involvement in incident/crash management, can place team members in various confronting and high demand situations. If you possess the right attitude, skills and attributes to work in a team environment and can work ‘shift work’, you may be the right applicant.

Other Requirements
Appointment to this role is also subject to:
- Applicants’ ability and willingness to undertake rostered work shifts
- Obtaining a current police clearance prior to appointment
- Successfully passing a pre-employment medical test prior to appointment
- Obtaining Senior First Aid Certificate within a 12 week training period.
