WA College of Agriculture (WACOA) – Denmark is looking for a dedicated and experienced Farm Manager to join their team.
The successful applicant will manage a large college farm whilst developing and implementing the Farm Business Management Plan. You will work in conjunction with the Principal and Agricultural Advisory Committee developing, implementing, evaluating and reviewing farm policies, plans and strategies and will provide specialist agricultural and economic management advice. The Farm Manager will research latest trends in agricultural production and marketing strategies whilst ensuring farm enterprises, vehicles, machinery and buildings are managed on commercial principles.
The Farm Manager will manage human resources, including induction and performance management of staff whilst monitoring and managing staff leave entitlements to ensure accrued leave is cleared within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with relevant awards, agreements and Departmental policy.
The Farm Manager will manage substantial financial resources including budget preparation whilst maintaining records of farm related information to ensure accurate reports, estimates and statistics are prepared. The successful applicant will assist with the development and organisation of effective agricultural education and training programs to meet School Curriculum and Standards Authority and Australian Qualification Training Framework (AQTF) requirements.
Located just east of the town centre of Denmark, the WACOA is a 560 hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10, 11 and 12 students offering a wide variety of studies with an agriculturalfocus. While the majority of students are residential, there are a number of day students, and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. From its early beginnings in 1942 on the site of the current TAFE campus, the College has evolved considerably and moved to its present purpose-built facility in 1999, with a capacity for around 95 residential students and 45 day students. The Denmark College is part of a consortium with four other agricultural Colleges.
On site housing is provided for the Farm Manager in lieu of a shared on-call responsibility with the Assistant Farm Manager.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Significant experience and competency in the management of a large or multifaceted agricultural enterprise/farm. (Relevant to the requirements of the college)
- Knowledge and understanding of AQTF requirements of a Registered Training Organisation and the ability to deliver and assess effective training programs in agriculture and related areas.
- Experience in financial accountability including budget preparation, monitoring and reporting.
- Ability to prepare, implement and manage business plans and to provide comprehensive reports.
- Well developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to provide leadership, establish and maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
- Leadership ability including supervising and developing staff and in adhering to occupational safety and health requirements in an agricultural setting.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Hold an appropriate post-secondary qualification in management, agriculture or other relevant area;
- Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent, or commit to complete the Certificate within 12 months of commencement;
- Hold a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Share an on-call role (50-50) with the Assistant Farm Manager; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
