The WA College of Agriculture - Denmark is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Technical Officer – Agriculture Instruction Horticulture to join their team.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for managing the College horticulture enterprise, and will assist the Farm Manager in the implementation of the College Farm Plan, the development, implementation and review of the horticulture enterprise budget and maintain accurate databases and registers to monitor financial, human resource and student records.
The successful applicant will provide on-the-job workplace training to Year 10, 11 and 12 students, deliver and assess training in Certificates I - III in Agriculture and be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health requirements. The ability to role model outstanding employability skills and to work with students in a teaching/training capacity is highly desirable.
Located just east of the town centre of Denmark, the WA College of Agriculture is a 560 hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10, 11 and 12 students offering a wide variety of studies with an agricultural focus.
While the majority of students are residential, there are a number of day students and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. From its early beginnings in 1942 on the site of the current campus, the College has evolved considerably and moved to its present purpose built facility in 1999, with a capacity of around 140 students.
Our educational program is balanced and provides a mix of hands-on practical work complemented by supporting knowledge provided in a classroom environment. The WA College of Agriculture is unique in that it offers accredited industry training alongside secondary education. As well as Certificates in Agriculture and related trades, the college offers a variety of accredited short coursed for study each year.
As this position attracts a Commuted Overtime Allowance (COT) at 15.38%, there is a requirement that 150 hours/year of overtime be completed for a full time employee. This overtime will be carried out in extracurricular activities relevant to horticulture as well as on other areas of the farm, i.e. working on weekends in the dairy, and on other farm sections as required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
Please note: The salary level for this position will be determined after the successful applicant is assessed as addressing all eligibility and selection criteria indicated in the relevant attached JDF in the context of the outcomes and selection criteria described.
Applicants may be able to commence at a L2.1 or L3.1 if suitably qualified or with requisite experience.
Level 2, $61,172 - $66,256 per annum (PSGO CSA GA 2017)
Level 3, $69,896 - $75,717 per annum (PSGO CSA GA 2017)
