Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: The Head of Department General Surgery provides regional clinical leadership and governance to Surgical services across WACHS South West and day to day operational management of Bunbury Hospital Surgical Services. As part of a multidisciplinary team the successful applicant will provide specialist surgery services to patients at Bunbury Hospital and other South West hospitals as necessary to ensure service delivery. The position holder ensures patient safety and quality of care, provides leadership and facilitates orientation, training, supervision and education, where relevant, for Doctors in Training, health service medical practitioners and other health professionals. In collaboration with other Consultants, the Head of Department General Surgery works to achieve National, State and WACHS/South West performance standards and targets within allocated resources.
Area Profile: The Surgical Department is a busy department offering high quality, efficient surgical procedures. The Day Procedures and Theatres area provide consultant surgical and anaesthetic services for the specialities of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, urology, orthopaedics, plastics, ENT, emergency and trauma. The Surgical Ward currently has a bed capacity of 30. Outpatients’ clinics are also run as part of this directorate.
