Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: The Midwest region of WA is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Consultant Paediatrician. The Paediatrics unit provides a comprehensive service with inpatient paediatrics, a neonatal service and a community paediatric service for local and remote outpatient clinics across the Midwest region. Paediatrics is supported by a well-established Child Development Service, Child Health Nurse Service and Public Health service. Based at Geraldton Hospital, this position supports and teaches junior medical staff and non-specialist medical staff working with children and their families.
The unit has 2 consultant staff and regular locums who provide additional consultant cover, with one Resident Medical Officer. The hospital Emergency Department sees approximately 30,000 patients per year in total. There are 6 inpatient paediatric beds and a level 2 neonatal unit with 3 cots. The maternity service has approximately 450 births per annum. Oncall is shared among the consultants and there is limited after hours emergency neonatal cover of the adjacent private hospital which has 250 births per annum.
WACHS Midwest recognises that there is a significant need for service growth in Paediatrics in Geraldton, Carnarvon and the smaller rural centres in the Midwest. The new consultant will be a key person in helping to shape that growth.
