This is a Fixed Term Full Time appointment for up to 5 years.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: The Director of Clinical Services Mental Health is primarily responsible for the clinical governance of the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Midwest Mental Health and Community alcohol and other drug service (MMH&CADS). Clinical governance includes working collaboratively with the WACHS Midwest Regional Manager Mental Health and CADS to ensure that clinical mental health practice and service development in the Midwest are in accordance with the National Mental Health Standards, the WA Mental Health Act and all associated legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks. The Director of Clinical Services Mental Health is responsible for directly supervising a medical team of 2 Consultant Psychiatrists and 1 Junior doctor and may also supervise a Trainee Psychiatrist in primarily a community mental health setting. However, there is opportunity for limited work with psychiatric patients in a general ward setting. The Clinical Director is also required to manage a proportionate clinical caseload which, by arrangement, can be within a number of mental health specific care sub specialities applicable to our rural health setting.
Area Profile: The area supported by WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Midwest is approximately 601,859km2 and covers a large proportion of the middle of the state. It is bounded by the Wheatbelt, the Goldfields and the Kimberley. The area has a population of around 64 884, including 10.6% Aboriginal Australians. Geraldton hospital is the largest health campus and the mental health service is situated there. The greater Geraldton area is the largest population area and holds about 80% of the population. There are also offices in Meekatharra and Carnarvon. The Midwest is an area characterised by great diversity including coastal, farming and desert areas. This diversity provides a large array of professional and recreational opportunities. In addition the Midwest MH&CADS is undergoing a huge reform in Mental health with significant addition of resources and presents a real opportunity for the right applicant to have important input into service development.
