Conditions
This is a full time, permanent vacancy. There will also be a Pool running for a period of 18 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable will be placed into a pool where appointments may be considered for similar vacancies for full-time, part-time, casual, fixed term or permanency.
A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department of Culture and the Arts Police Record Screening Policy.
To be considered for this position you must also have the following:
- A Bachelor Degree or higher level qualification in a relevant field. (Overseas qualifications must have been assessed for Australian equivalency).
- Evidence of having passed diving medical required for Commonwealth of Australia Commercial SCUBA Diver (AS 2815) Part 1 qualification.
- Open Water diving qualification recognised in Australia and Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme Occupational Air Diving to 30m (Restricted) AS2815.1.
- Australian Maritime Safety Authority Coxswain Grade 1 NC certificate of competency or equivalent.
Location
This position is located in historic Fremantle, close to the bustling cafe strip and tourist sights.
Job Description
As the Assistant Curator you will be required to assists the Department of Maritime Archaeology with research, curation and public programs. Specific responsibilities may include (but not limited to):
- Carrying out routine curatorial work including collections management.
- Maintaining records relating to collections and assists in managing the collections database and compilation of collection records.
- Conducting and assisting with research and fieldwork as well as assisting with the Historic Shipwrecks program.
- Assisting with preparation of exhibitions, educational and interpretive programs.
- Answer public enquiries and participates in special public events, including cooperative programs with community groups.
