About the Role
The Planning and Technical Services Directorate of Main Roads Western Australia provides road network planning, design, engineering, environmental, road safety and surveying expertise. We lead the development of integrated technical solutions and services that support a world-class, safe, reliable and sustainable road based transport system.
The Road and Traffic Engineering Branch is the centre of expertise in road design, traffic engineering and traffic management. Our team develops and maintains a wide range of standards and guidelines, as well as undertake concept and preliminary designs and technical advice on a range of complex road engineering matters.
We are seeking a professional and experienced Principal Design Manager to join our team to provide expert technical advice and support to senior road designers and consultants in relation to the design of major roads - including the development and maintenance of related processes, technical standards and guidelines.
The role is also responsible for managing the development and maintenance of the road design capability in Main Roads, including the application of road design software.
About You
The successful applicant will be experienced and highly competent in the following;
- Standards and guidelines related to road design
- Managing the design, audit and review of road projects
- Leading teams undertaking road design projects
- Providing expert technical advice and training related to the design of road projects
- Utilising road design and drafting software, including MXROAD and AutoCAD
- Stakeholder consultation, liaison and negotiation

2. Evidence of your current Western Australian car motor vehicle licence or approved equivalent.
3. A statement outlining your comprehensive skill, knowledge and experience in the following three (3) criteria in no more than three (3) pages:
- Design of complex road projects
- Review/audit of road designs
- Development and deployment of standards and guidelines for road design
4. If applicable to you (optional), a copy of your Degree in Civil Engineering.
