Operational Modelling and Visualisation Coordinator
Main Roads Western Australia is a WA State Government agency responsible for the State’s highways and main roads, representing almost 30% of the State’s total assets. Main Roads WA is one of the largest geographically spread road agencies in the world, covering 2.5 million square kilometres.
In response to the growing concern around congestion, Main Roads Western Australia has created a new Network Operations Directorate. This new Directorate is focused on becoming a world-class road network operator through developing improved capabilities in order to manage the exciting new challenges presented.
As an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to attracting and retaining a culturally diverse workforce and in line with our commitment to improve diversity, we encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, women and people from a diverse background to apply.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operational Modelling and Visualisation Manager, this role is responsible for developing and coordinating operational traffic and simulation models using a variety of suitable platforms, to optimise performance and analyse and report on traffic impacts on the road network.
The successful applicant will fully understand traffic engineering and transport modelling principles, and have hands-on experience of operational traffic modelling and analysis, with skills across a number of software packages including LINSIG, TRANSYT, SIDRA, ARCADY, PICADY, OSCADY, AIMSUN, VISSIM, VISUM and similar. You will demonstrate competency across;
- Operational traffic modelling projects to enable traffic impact analysis for intersections, routes, corridors and areas through use of macroscopic, mesoscopic and microscopic models.
- Traffic models to optimise performance of intersections and routes, and to predict the impact of various small and large changes across the road network (such as accidents, road closures and road detours).
- Mesoscopic and microscopic models that simulate real-life traffic conditions for testing ‘scenarios’ in order to determine impacts of proposals for base and future years.
- Modelling support function to teams and projects within Network Operations Directorate, including the Signal Timing Review Improvement Project.
- Communicating the outcome of modelling projects using a variety of tools and methods such as visualisation and detailed presentations, enabling simple and concise presentation of results to multiple stakeholder groups.
- Establishing modelling guidelines and best practices, and embedding business processes to streamline and improve accuracy of operational modelling being carried out, and delivered to, Network Operations Directorate.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an organisation in a newly created Directorate embarking on an exciting period of change. An attractive salary package, numerous benefits and an attractive work/life balance is on offer for the right candidate.
