The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) is looking for a part-time experienced Legal Officer to join our team for 12 months (with a possibility of extension). We are offering a part-time role with very flexible working arrangements (working between 15-22 hours a week), including school based hours.

The MCB is a fully self-supporting statutory authority within the Western Australian Public Sector that manages the six cemeteries and memorial garden sites in the Perth metropolitan area. These include Karrakatta, Fremantle, Midland and Guildford cemeteries and Pinnaroo Valley and Rockingham Regional Memorial Park.

About the role
We are seeking an experienced lawyer who has a successful background in reviewing, interpreting and applying legislation on a range of matters.
As the sole Legal Officer at the MCB, you will provide routine legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Corporate Executive and management. This involves matters relating to the interpretation and practical application of legislation relevant to the MCB, contracts, legal documents, contractor and client disputes, licence breaches and industry regulation.
In this unique opportunity, you will confidently and quickly gain a sound understanding of MCB legal matters, and using your excellent research, analysis and problem solving skills, consolidate your findings into a well-considered recommendation. Your well-developed communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively interact with a range of internal and external parties, and prepare a variety of routine legal documents, reports and correspondence for different audiences. You will also have the opportunity to provide MCB input into legislative review processes that may impact MCB operations.
